Flow Roof Tools: less repetition, more detail

Explore Roof Outline, Roof Surface Zones and Gutter Caps, plus the upcoming 30-day Autodesk App Store trial for Revit 2025, 2026 and 2027.

Drawing roof outlines, creating flashing geometry and closing gutter ends all take time. Across a project, these repeated tasks can add up.

Flow Roof Tools brings three focused tools to Revit—Roof Outline, Roof Surface Zones and Gutter Caps—to automate much of that work while keeping you in control of the result.

Roof Outline: create outlines without tracing

Roof Outline generates exterior roof outline detail lines in a plan view from one or more selected roofs.

The tool temporarily adjusts the view settings to help expose the roofs for selection, creates the outline, then restores the original view range and view template.

This reduces the need to trace roof edges manually, particularly around footprints with multiple returns. The resulting linework uses a dedicated roof outline style to support consistent presentation.

Roof Surface Zones: automate flashing geometry

Roof Surface Zones creates surface geometry representing ridge, hip and gable/verge flashings.

Choose the flashing types, set their widths and specify an existing project material. Fascia overhang and gable downstand settings provide further control over the result.

For roofs built from several elements, the tool can analyse associated roof parts together. Its review workflow lets you preview the proposed flashings and adjust edge selections before creating the final geometry.

Automating these steps reduces repetitive modelling while allowing you to review and refine the flashing arrangement. Results should be checked carefully on very complex or multi-part roofs.

Gutter Caps: finish the ends

Gutter Caps creates end caps derived from the selected gutter’s end geometry.

Working in a suitable roof plan, select a gutter and pick near the ends you want to cap. The tool generates the cap geometry and skips caps it detects as already present.

This replaces the repeated work of manually recreating and positioning gutter-end geometry. The caps are separate elements, so check the junction appearance at the intended drawing scale, particularly in larger-scale details.

Small tasks, useful time savings

Each tool addresses a specific piece of everyday roof work: tracing outlines, creating flashing surfaces or modelling gutter caps.

Together, they reduce repeated drawing and geometry creation, leaving more time to check the roof and refine its documentation.

Coming soon: a 30-day Autodesk App Store trial

We’re preparing to launch a 30-day trial of Flow Roof Tools through the Autodesk App Store, supporting Revit 2025, 2026 and 2027.

The submission is currently under review by Autodesk, so the launch date has not yet been confirmed. Once available, the trial will give you an opportunity to explore all three tools and assess their benefits in your own workflow.

Watch the playlist for a first look, and look out for the trial launch announcement.
